Scope of Works

The Hempstead Infrastructure project involved the demolition, remediation and earthworks to a 23.5Ha area of the former brickwork site followed by the construction of the primary infrastructure and road network for a 700 unit mixed use development. The first phase of the works was the demolition of the remaining abandoned buildings and the removal of all abandoned foundations and structures left behind form the former brick making industries.

All concrete and suitable materials removed within the remediation phase of the works were processed through our WRAP funded recycling centre into primary aggregates and materials for the latter stages of the works. Following the removal of all obstructions and the remediation of the area the existing site was recontoured to provide the correct development platform for the infrastructure and individual land parcels. Approximately 100,000m3 of material was moved and placed within an 8 week period the majority of which had to cross the A15 London Road – one of the main southern arteries into Peterborough.

The construction phase of the project involves the installation of all foul and storm water drainage infrastructure including the construction and commissioning of an Anglian Water adopted foul water pumping station. Pipe diameters and depths range from 1500mm diameter storm drainage at a depth of 7.5m to 150mm dia foul drainage at 1.5m.

As well as traditional drainage both storm and foul infrastructure have been installed underneath existing highway structures utilising pipe jacking and guided auger boring trenchless technology. Four new S278 traffic controlled highway junctions along with carriageway widening works are currently under construction which will link up the S38 infrastructure already completed to provide the new gateway into the development.
