At the start of 2025, one of our engineering projects was the construction of a steel warehouse with a mezzanine floor and office spaces in Litlington, near Royston. This involved the excavation and levelling of the site using Type 2 hardcore and a sand blinding layer. Once the perimeter was insulated, polythene DPM was applied followed by a layer of mesh reinforcement. Concrete was then poured to an S4 consistency with a superplasticiser to form the floor slab. This was completed in two days with two pours of approximately six hours each to create a 240m³ floor slab. The warehouse base was floated into place in the early hours of the morning. The junction from Bassingbourn Road will also be widened to allow for two-way traffic, eliminating the current one-way system around the site.
