An overview of Hampton, Peterborough

GKL are proud to have been part of the Hampton, Peterborough development since 1999.

As this was one of the largest development schemes in the UK and Europe, Hampton has required an innovative approach. GKL has acted as the principal contractor for enabling works and primary infrastructure across many of the phases.

Our focus was on infrastructure works including roads, bridges, earth moving, sewers and amenities supply. We worked closely with the owners and project management team at O&H Hampton to ensure maximum efficiency and minimise disruption to the growing population. The development includes two secondary schools, four primary schools, shopping facilities and areas occupied by a range of major businesses.

Key Metrics

  • More than 2.5 million m3 of cut and fill undertaken to deliver the development platforms.
  • 30 miles of highway infrastructure completed.
  • Extensive ecological works, from newt and amphibian tunnels and culverts to mitigation ponds.
  • Over 1,000 acres of open space and country parks.
  • 25 playgrounds for the local community.

Our works over this time have supported a brand new township of over 8,500 homes, two secondary schools and five primary schools, thousands of acres of open space and country parks and hundreds of new businesses.

As well as this, the development created over 5,800 new jobs and GKL continues to invest in the area via one of its company, GKL Residential Developments. We maintain a good relationship with the Hampton development and have supported its newer phases, such as Hampton Gardens, Hampton Beach, Hampton Woods and Hampton Water.

We maintain a long term approach to projects as we see new phases taking shape over the coming years including Hampton Gardens, Hampton Beach, Hampton Woods and Hampton Water, all of which will have distinctive and individual themes. We are very pleased with the construction work we have completed to date and look forward to seeing the development continue for many years to come.
