GKL Group worked on a Peterborough brownfield project, which required the move of 2.5 million cubic metres of material from one side of the 2,900 acre site, to the other.

The process involved crossing one of the main arterial highway routes into the south of the city, but due to traffic restrictions imposed by the local authority, the process was to take eight years.

Clearly, this was not an option for the client, so GKL Group designed and implemented the build of a tunnel crossing under the road for the construction traffic. After securing full road closure over the Easter holiday, the company completed the construction and reinstated the carriageway in just four days.
