SPRING HILL

Spring Hill is a mixed development of 24 units situated off Barton Road in Gravenhurst, Bedfordshire.

The client in conjunction with the local housing association constructed three, four and five-bedroom detached private houses alongside terraced and semi-detached social housing within the development.

Spring Hill is located on the site of an old orchard within the village and had a considerable slope.

To level the site for construction, a sheet-piled retaining wall was installed at the highest point.

Sleeper retaining walls and stepped gardens were utilised on the lower side of the site and a cut and fill operation was carried out to create a plateau on which the road and houses were constructed.

GKL also constructed the access road to adoptable standard, the foul water drainage system and the surface water SUDS drainage infrastructure which included multiple attenuation tanks within the road corridor.

Permeable block paving was installed on driveways and a shared cul-de-sac. GKL also installed the hard landscaping of paths and patios for each property.
